At Universidade Lusíada, classes are taught in Portuguese, so we highly recommend applicants to have at least a basic level of Portuguese before coming to our University, although this is not a requirement. Those willing to learn or improve their language skills, are encouraged to take the Intensive Portuguese Language and Culture Course.
The aim of this course is to give participants the minimum of competence in terms of communication skills and to introduce them into the Portuguese culture in a perspective of the most relevant examples of our country's history as well as its artistic manifestations such as literature, painting, sculpture, music, cinema, architecture, among others.
Themes will be selected based on the human, social, political, economic and citizenship circumstances of daily life and top news events will be highlighted, with emphasis on the oral discussion of opinions.
In literature, selected paragraphs of classic texts from our famous writers will be used to provide the participants with an image of our literary output, not excessively detailed but consistent. These high moments will be highlighted and contextually inserted in the historical events from which they originated. Prose or verse examples of these texts will be read, interpreted and commented upon.
The gramatical studies will be based on Gramática Ativa1 and eventually on Gramática Ativa2 authored by Isabel Coimbra and Olga Mata Coimbra (Lidel - Edições Técnicas, Lda. - ISBN 978-972-757-638-8).
This is an intensive course of 72 teaching hours, distributed in 4 weeks. At the end, participants attending 68 hours minimum, will be granted an assistance certificate. This course is not a certified one thus it does not give any ECTS credit points.
This is not a compulsory course and its participation is free of charge for all participants that are doing a mobility period in Universidades Lusíada.
